Fluctuations of Urinary 17-Ketosteroids and 17-Hydroxycorticosteroids in Pregnancy

Abstract
The values of the urinary 17-KS and 17-OHCS were measured in 4 of non-pregnant women, 23 of normal pregnant women, 7 of normally coursed puerperal women, and 3 of women with anencephalic fetus in the last trimester of pregnancy.
The following results pointed out that we ¢¥should include feto-placental unit as well as adrenal cortex of pregnant women as sources of production of corticoids in pregnancy.
1) There was no difference in the values of the urinary 17-KS between pregnant¢¥ state and non-pregnant state. Of course, there was ? little change in that of the urinary 17-KS in all pregnant course.
2) The value of the urinary 17-OHCS revealed two peaks at the 24th week and 32nd week of gestation.
3) Pregnant women with anencephalic fetus resulted in declination of the urinary estriol and 17-KS with no alteration of value of the urinary 17-OHCS.
